
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American singer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch-singer, known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop classics from 1955 to 1969. Her recording of "Cry me a river" the track she released on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as a actor for her performance in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress while she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35 year acting career began in film in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead role in a variety of westerns. In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. She continued her success as the female lead of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
